Water For Sale?

Last year, in one of our L’nu communities, COTT’s Beverages had made a 1 $billion/year offer for “water rights”. They said no way, over our dead bodies. Good for them, I’m happy they did. However, now they have another offer on the table from another source, and they are considering it. Why? I don’t think they should be considering it at all, and just flat out say no to it again.

I note that it seems to be band council “clan mothers” and “elders” involved, according to what I was told. Well I have a few issues that irk me about that. For one, how is it possible that the band council of all groups has these self-appointed people acting as if they actually were clan mothers, elders. What is it that makes them think that they speak for all L’nu? They are only pretenders if they do so.

They forget, or never knew, that we operate by consensus. Don’t you think they would want to get everyone’s input on the matter, for a matter of such importance as water? It tells me they are not real, but are there to sign papers with some foreign entity corporation to make a buck for a very few people. I say they are traitors to the L’nuk if they do this.

There are much better ways to improve the lives of the people, and it isn’t by getting dirty money from corporations, or handouts from foreign invasive governments. It is by doing it ourselves. See the Listiguj Fisheries Management for instance. This is something we do for ourselves, and we don’t need other people to tell us what to do. I’m sure there are other good examples of L’nu taking care of L’nu matters.

Get this, in the message I got, there was mention of “security”; if they are so worried about security, it is because they are going to get opposition to this plan. If they were legit, they wouldn’t have to worry about insiders doing things, they would have to worry about entities such as the RCMP or some other police or military force trying to break up the meetings. To me this is yet another indication they are up to no good - they expect trouble. “nough said.
