Hey,

Been trying to set up gitosis on a machine, and ran into some issues with ssh. You have to turn UsePam Yes to No or just comment it out in order to have the ssh keys be used to auth to the machine, and use gitosis-serve. This isn’t very clear in the little documentation I found on-line (almost everywhere), except for one forum post mentioning UsePam.

PAM will obviously see that the account has no password, therefore will ask for a password. Of course other accounts will be able to login if they have an account there (I suggest you use keys, seriously, there’s many benefits).

So if you’re having issues, check your ssh $SYSCONFDIR/sshd_config (Debian, Ubuntu have it in /etc/ssh).

Of course, if you pull your head out of the box, and take a different perspective, like I did, you’ll see this immediately. Sometimes it takes a 2×4 to wake up .

Linux Hater blog. Oh boy, yes I’m commenting on it. I’m not linking to it however, it’s on blogspot. More specifically, this post on BEATNIKBLOG.

The dude really does have a hate-on, I have to disagree here, which could very well be faked, and just trying to make a point. Actually, he does have some good points, but some others are very much WTF territory.

I have my own gripes with Linux-bases OSes, one of which is the fact that instead of coming together as groups, people wander off and do their own thing. That’s all well and good, but when several projects try to do the same thing, over and over again, re-inventing things in each one, how does that make things move forward in a constructive way? I’ll explain via an example, because that’s how my brain works.

Take a project, say a calendaring app. There’s I don’t know how many on sourceforge alone, never mind in the “hidden Web”; they all do more or less the same thing. Why don’t they join forces, take the best of all of them, and make one or two really nice ones, instead of having 20 different projects that do something OK, something else that sucks, and something else passable?

Humans are social creatures. “The West” — coming at it from an outsider point of view, and knowing it very well, having lived in their society for a long time — has this preoccupation with individualism, to the point of having “nuclear families”, instead of extended ones; apartment buildings where no-one talks to each other; barely noticing people need help when it’s obvious that someone does, wants it, and says as much. It’s just plain selfishness, IMO.

On the other hand, you have a grouping of people — I hesitate to call it community — that sometimes work together, quite often don’t that work on projects. Have you ever noticed how the larger the group, the better it tends to work? However, there’s a point of diminishing returns, and inclusiveness and communication tend to break down, and you have to put more effort into keeping communication to a strict guideline, instead of having open discussion, which is totally counter-productive. Well, when that happens, you need to split out into smaller groups, and once in a while come together to discuss larger issues.

This is what traditional societies have known for a long time. The key to a successful community is allowing dissenting voices have their say, and include their say in the discussions, and not just a “we’ll hear you out, but won’t really do anything about it, nor will we actually listen.” That’s not discussion, that’s repression. Discussion means working on getting consensus. Some of you will say What!? Consensus?! We have no time for that! My reply to that is: Oh really? So I guess you have no time in making it work, be productive, and efficient. This implies thinking outside the box. You have to get creative, and not just to go trolling someone, or flame someone, but really think.

Well, I think his shooting death was totally wrong, and now the cops implicated get off. Typical. Us brown folks get shot for nothing, and the true criminals get off. This is sick and they should be stopped!

As was seen by all caring people living in Montreal and elsewhere, this young man of 19 was killed by cops, and their subsequent acquittal is seen by many including myself as a severe injustice. These sorts of violent acts have to stop.

I am sick and tired of seeing my fellow Indigenous brothers and sisters get killed by the real terrorists, the paper-country of “Canada” state apparatus of low-level, and not so low-level, warfare.

Plenty of people are angry about this, any surprise that there’s been “civil unrest”, peaceful rallies, and protests? Not to this NDN, there isn’t. And now, these cops are effectively pardoned. This is just so wrong to me.

I’ve posted articles about various men and women that were murdered this year, and various excuses were postulated by the canadian state. None of them satisfying, none of the outcomes had to happen that way, in death, and now their families and friends mourn their early passing.

Why is it that they treat people differently? There’s no valid reason for it. Racism is just so wrong in so many ways. As I write, I feel that heavy, burning, weight in my gut, the pain of injustice, and wanting to do something about it.

I haven’t been to to the rallies, protests, riots, but I have been there in spirit, praying that the madness ends, but the system keeps going, oblivious to what’s going on, as if they can continue doing what they’ve doing all these years. It crumbles around their ears, and they sort of realize it, with the recent “economic crisis”; but not really. They try to solve it doing things “as usual”, and it won’t work. Try waking up, and doing the right thing.

Stop killing people because they’re brown!
